Fat Show San Lucas School of the Arts

London-based architects Fashion Architecture Taste have updated their website to include images of the St. Lucas Art Academy in Boxtel, the Netherlands.

The project, completed last year, included the application of a highly ornate facade (reminiscent of Dutch roofs and the Doge's Palace of Venice) to the existing school building, as well as some interior renovations.

Fat said the following about the project:

St. Lucas Art School, Boxtel, Netherlands, 2006

"Fat was appointed in 2002 to create a new identity for the school and rationalize the interior and exterior spaces.

"The existing modest building from the 1960s will be given a strong, colorful and unusual new exterior character with the addition of decorative screens, surface finishes and signage. These elements convey the inner life of the creative educational institution and strengthen the connection between the different areas of the exterior space between the existing buildings.

"The aim of the interior plan is to enhance the identity and legibility of the main circulation areas. This is achieved by integrating public activities such as workspaces, dining facilities and exhibition spaces into the main corridors.

"These will become more street-like with a variety of activities along the way, increasing the sense of movement and change within the building. The existing circulation areas will become wider, more visible to everyday users and visitors with new connections and further enriched by new signage.

"The £3.5 million phased project was completed in mid-2006.
