Pedra Tosca Park / RCR Architecture

Barcelona-based photographer Hisao Suzuki presents us with a series of beautiful photos of Pedra Tosca Park, designed by Catalan architects RCR Arquitectes.

Made of steel and rock, the project provides an entrance and access to the protected area within the Garrotxa Volcanic Park in Les Preses near Olot, Catalonia, Spain.

Pedra Tosca means "hard rock" in Catalan.

Based in Olot, RCR Arquitectes takes its name from the initials of co-founders Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramón Vilalta, also known as Aranda Pigem Vilalta Arquitectes.

Here is the architect's description of the project:

"In the Garrotxa Volcanic Park in Les Preses, near Olot, we encountered a very special place, a sea of rocks formed by the basalt canyons of the Croscat volcano and the hard work of the people to cultivate the land by leveling and leveling all the rocks, stones and rubble that cleared the land of stones into solid walls, tombs and huts.

"The morphological and tactile solidity of the regiment is striking. The project aims to emphasize the singularities of this landscape and create an element of surprise in its discovery."

"The narrow steel zigzag line allows you to move through the space, and the steel holds the irregularly spaced protruding tombs in place. The zigzag shape of the steel line contrasts with the rounded rock blocks and forms the identity of the 'new opening' here and there."
