More pictures of the Hadid Emirate Centre

This is the complete set of images designed by Zaha Hadid for the Saadiyat Island Performing Arts Centre in the United Arab Emirates.

The client, Emirates Tourism Development & Investment, sent us the following information about the Hadid project:

In Hadid's concept for a performing arts centre, a 62-metre high building is proposed to house five theatres: a concert hall, a concert hall, an opera house, a drama theatre and a flexible theatre with a capacity of 6,300 people, 1,100 seats more than the Royal Albert Hall in London. The centre can also house a performing arts university.

"As it meanders across the site, the complexity of the building increases, the height and depth of the building increases, and multiple peaks are achieved in the body housing the performance spaces that protrude from the structure like fruit on a vine, facing west and facing the water," Hadid explained.

The building became part of an inclined ensemble extending from the Maritime Museum at the southern end to the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi at the northern end. The centre of mass of the performing arts centre is located at the water's edge, and its mass is concentrated on the central axis of the site. This arrangement interrupts the block matrix of the main road, opening up views of the sea and the Abu Dhabi skyline.

"The concert hall is situated above the four theatres below, allowing daylight to enter, and from the huge windows behind the stage, there are breathtaking views of the sea and the city skyline. The local hall of each theatre faces the sea, allowing each visitor to maintain constant visual contact with their surroundings. "
